The Saturated Calomel Reference Electrode can also be known as Mercury/ Mercurous Chloride, or simply the S.C.E. Mercury (I) chloride is a chemical compound with the formula Hg₂Cl₂ (also known as the mineral calomel or mercurous chloride). For laboratory use, the Koslow S.C.E. has excellent ion transfer and low noise.
Reference Electrode Potential:
- 244 mV vs. Normal Hydrogen Electrode (NHE)
- 410 mV vs. Mercury Sulfate Reference Electrode (M.S.E.)
- 440 mV vs. Silver / Silver Sulfate
APPLICATIONS:
- Electro-analysis
- Battery maintenance & testing
- Corrosion testing
- Electro-Analytical studies
STEPS TO VERIFY VIABILITY OF ELECTRODE:
- Create a ~5mm layer of electrode solution in a beaker
- Place two electrodes of the same type into the pool of solution
- Compare the readings using a volt meter
- If they are within 10 mV of variation, it is good to go!
