Free or unalloyed iron remaining on the surface of stainless steel after machining, milling, drilling, etc., can lead to corrosion. A simple 2-minute color spot test detects surface-free iron. Whole surfaces can be spot tested. This test is also recommended for testing the inside bore of small tubes such as hypodermic needles and HPLC tubes. The Passivation Test Kit 1626 is faster and more convenient than any ASTM spec A 967-96 chemical test. This kit is much better than Feroxyl and Copper Sulfate tests.
